Runners won’t want to miss this one. Where else can you get a cheeky pre-Christmas marathon in while also welcoming in the festive period?
On the 21st of December, the Portsmouth Coastal Marathon will be taking place along the scenic South Coast, offering some beautiful views for those taking part.
Organised by Believe and Achieve Events, the route starts at the Pyramid Centre on Clarence Esplanade and works its way along the the shores of Langstone Harbour. So it may get a bit muddy depending on the weather.
If you fancy the idea of it but aren’t ready to complete a marathon, fear not! The event offers 3 different race options:
- A full marathon
- A half marathon
- A 50k ultra
They all start and end in the same place, but the route will obviously be extended if you go for one of the longer options. It’s a ‘there and back’ route whichever distance you go for. It’s a multi-terrain race too, but it’s almost entirely flat, so no nasty hills to tackle.
Well stocked and staffed aid stations will be dotted along the way, and the race is properly organised and controlled, so everyone’s safety is the priority. You even get a medal at the finish line – which you could hang on your Christmas tree if you wanted to – with other goodies usually available too.
The coastal backdrop is just perfect for a run like this, and it reminds you how lucky we are to live in a place as special as Portsmouth.
The event starts at 8am for all racers and finishes at 4pm, and festive outfits are encouraged but not obligatory. Rumour has it there may also be carolling after the event.
